It is not about winning or prizes, but about challenging yourself to create more Saiunkoku Monogatari fanworks, for all of us to enjoy! And for everyone to have fun in the process!
(A) “Springtime” Theme
Show any Saiunkoku Monogatari character(s) in any spring-themed situation. It doesn't have to be just about sakura or flowers or Valentine's Day. It can be centred on a spring festival/custom/food that's unique to your country/culture (but please give a little write-up on the folk custom in your description box so that the rest of us know what it's about – it's fun to share! ^^), or even one that exists only in your imagination! It can even be a costume or hair accessory that a particular Saiunkoku character may wear in spring! Let your imagination run free!
(B) Deadline – 20 June 2012 (update: extended to 18 July 2012)
(Summer Solstice – the official start of summer, in parts of the world)
I know many of you are still in school/college, and exams are a huge time-commitment. So, let's take it slow and easy; no rush. This will give you 10 weeks from now to work on your entry. Extension of deadline can be considered if necessary. The count-down timer will be shown on group page.
(C) Any media, any style, but no OCs, no Mature filters
Traditional, digital, pixel art, artisan crafts, dolls, cosplay, comics, animation - all acceptable.
No Fanfiction … sorry. Maybe in a later contest, when the number of writers in this fandom here in dA has increased (I'm trying to get writers from the LJ communities to join us here. If you know anybody in the LJ communities or FFN, go drag them here!)
Anime/manga, chibi, semi-realism, realism, abstract, neko, anthro, boys' love - all acceptable. Entries can be coloured or not (pencil drawings and lineart acceptable); with or without background; with any number of characters from Saiunkoku, but no OCs; and nothing that would require mature filters.

(E) Other Submission Rules
(a) You must be a member of the group.
(b) Judging will be by all members of the group, by the voting of their first/second/third choices. And that is final … each method has its pros and cons, and there is no one method that can satisfy every contestant. Any complaints will be totally ignored.
I had considered the poll method of voting, but there is a major criticism of that system as it is used here in dA … there is no way to ensure that only members of the group can take part in the poll!! Some have accused the results of being 'unfair', favouring those who are popular, who 'advertise' their entry and get friends to vote in the poll. Hence, the poll system shall never be the method of choice in a contest in this group.
(c) Your deviation's date “Submitted” to dA must be on or later than today, 12 April 2012.
(d) Minimum number of entries for contest to proceed to voting is 3 (from 3 different contestants). If less than three entries are submitted by deadline, the contest will be void.
(e) Must be your own work - No tracing, screenshots or manipulations of images from the manga/anime/artbooks. If you eyeball the image, but draw it in your own hand traditionally or digitally, that's acceptable. Referencing from such images is acceptable. If you have not done any 'own work' Saiunkoku fanart before, then you can start now, yes?
(f) You can submit more than one entry, but you can win only one prize.
(g) You can substitute your entry anytime before the contest ends, whether with an edited version or a totally new picture. Just give me the link to your entry here in this journal, in the comments below, or on the contest folder page (not on group page!), and I will make the swap.
(h) Your deviation description must state that it is submitted to
's Springtime Contest, and linked to this journal.(i) Entries to be submitted to Springtime Contest 2012 folder.
